Together with another 100 Greek and Cypriot artists, Yorgos participated in “LIFE”, a charitable exhibition. Yorgos’s representative, Alpha C.K. Art Gallery, co-organised the Life exhibition. It was held at the prestigious Leventis Gallery in the heart of Nicosia.

In support of the Cyprus Red Cross, the participating artists had to create a new work about life. For this the artists needed to use the egg as the linking symbol. There were no other restrictions or requirements.

Kill not the Goose that Lays the Golden Eggs

Being a victim of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Yorgos has always been greatly affected by the remnants of violence. That’s why he has frequently used glass that has been shot by a gun as the basis for his artworks.

Violence is of course the antithesis of life. But the egg reminded Yorgos of the fairytale in which the farmer had a goose that lay a golden egg every day. The farmer thought he would be instantly rich if he would kill the goose. He thought wrong of course. There were no more golden eggs and the goose now was dead. It made the artist look at the impact of bullets on glass.

With this work, Yorgos draws the viewer’s attention to the fact that only peaceful societies are successful in creating wealth and preserving life.

The Life exhibition was sponsored by Bank of Cyprus, Digital Tree, My Life, Tabs and Spaces and Alpha Cyprus and supported by Leo Burnett and Akis Express.
