Another Award: finalist at the Larnaca Biennale

Eye of Confidence full frontal view of the work of art

On 13th October 2021 the second edition of the Larnaca Biennale took off. From 340 applications submitted from around the world the organising committee selected 77 works of art. They were exhibited in three historic venues in the centre of Larnaca.

The year of the Larnaca Biennale was 2020, two years after the first edition.  But of course the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in that year made a postponement unavoidable.

Limetless Limits

The theme of the Larnaca Biennale 2021 was “limitless limits”. In the words of curator Vassilis Vassiliades “limits are put to the test, they expand and shift, but they cannot be annulled – be it the limits of existence, the limits of perception, of memory, of space, of matter and of logic.”

Eye of Confidence

For this edition Yorgos submitted one of his most recent takes on the “stratified jewels”, as series of works that draw on the imagery of the traditional evil eye amulets that are so common in Cyprus. The monochromatic version once more shows that the variations on this theme are certainly limitless. The paradoxical of properties of glass as a material also touch on the theme of limits: transparency and reflection are both limits and limitless in relation to light.
